Suspended Timber Ground Floors
For the insulation of suspended timber floors we would recommend the use of Seconds High Performance Rigid Urethane Insulation. The boards are easily cut to fit between the joists at any centres. Ideal for both newbuild and refurbishment.
Fixing Details
- The insulation should be installed between the floor joists prior to the installation of the floor boards.
- Cut boards to snugly fit joist spacings and support using either timber battens or nails driven partially into the side of joists leaving 40mm exposed.
- Lay the boards between the joists so they are supported by the battens/nails.
- Insulate any narrow gaps between a joist and the perimeter wall with specially cut pieces of board. Support those blocks nailed to the underside of the joists.
- Position boards so that a cavity (minimum 25mm) is formed above them, will increase the insulation level of the structure whilst providing an insulated cavity for services, heating pipes etc.
- Note: In the case of suspended timber ground floors where insulation is placed between structural members the U-value is calculated on a proportional area basis. In the case of a non-ground suspended floor the elemental method for calculating U-values should be adopted. Please refer to our Technical Services Department.
- Boards may be cut using a sharp knife or a fine toothed saw.

Now then nice small boards easy to handle and use in all sorts of applications They'd go between floor joists under rafters if you were just looking at upping the insulation value in a loft you are using for storage. under a concrete floor or in a shed,well how many more uses do you need.Now the daughters are still quite but I did have a phone call about towing a car the other day.Now this car had no brakes and so I pointed out the pitfalls of this situation but as usual I didn't know what I was talking about,I belive the insurance claim is on it's way well go on guess what happened !!!
